Zesco United to release players for COSAFA Cup

Zesco United have confirmed that they will release four players for Chipolopolo’s 2018 COSAFA Cup campaign.

The development is good news for Chipolopolo coach Beston Chambeshi who has been without key players from the 2017 FAZ Super Division champions since Zambia commenced preparations for the COSAFA Cup a fortnight ago.

Zesco spokesperson Maurice Sichone told COSAFA.COM that striker Lazarus Kambole, midfielder John Chingandu including defenders Shemmy Mayembe and Bornwell Silengo will join the team this Monday.

Sichone said the quartet will be released after Zescoís home league game on May 27 against New Monze Swallows at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

All four are in line for their senior COSAFA Cup debuts.

Zesco’s high profile players have been absent from Zambia’s 2018 COSAFA Cup training camp due to club obligations in both the 2018 CAF Champions League and domestic action.

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo regroup on May 27 for the final phase of their home camp in Lusaka before departing for South Africa later this coming week.

Chipolopolo will face Namibia in the quarterfinals on June 2 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium after both sides were handed preliminary group stage byes.
