Zambia girls rewarded for triumph at Region 5 Youth Games Maseru 2020

The Zambia Under-17 girls players and technical staff received a token of appreciation from the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for their victory at the recently completed Region 5 Youth Games Maseru 2020.

The Kangwa Kaluba-coached side demolished Botswana 4-0 in the final to scoop gold, and as a mark of appreciation from FAZ, each player and members of the technical bench received a range of presents.

FAZ Women’s national representative, Colonel Priscilla Katoba, says the girls’ achievement was history in the making for the association and the country.

“You went as Under-17, but you have come back as champions. That change of title means a lot to the FA and the country,” Katoba said.

“We believe in you and the technical bench because we know that you are a marvel and you will take us to greater heights.”

FAZ deputy general secretary Joseph Chimpampwe said with world football governing body FIFA attaching value to women’s football, the association will continue to support its growth at all levels.

“Against all odds, you have won the title. Last year’s final [a penalty shoot-out loss to Tanzania] was so close and here we are, I would therefore like to congratulate you for the victory and ask that you continue with your impressive performance in order to build a strong national team,” Chimpampwe said.
