South Africa have named their squad for the 2016 COSAFA Under-17 Championships to be played in Mauritius from July 22-31.
The South Africans have enjoyed good recent success at this age-group level having qualified for the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile, as well as the last African Under-17 Championships.
Coach Molefe Ntseki has had to overhaul his squad from the players that competed at those tournaments though as they have largely all moved up to the next junior level.
He has included a pair of exciting attacking talents in his team in the form of Orlando Pirates forward Lyle Foster and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Siphamandla Ntuli.
Sundowns goalkeeper Glen Baadjies will be another player to watch, along with midfielders Linamandla Mchilizeli, Luke le Roux and Thabiso Monyane.
South Africa will use the regional showpiece competition as preparation for the Under-17 Nations Cup qualifier against Tanzania. South Africa play the home leg first on the weekend of August 5-7, a week after the COSAFA final, with the return a fortnight later in East Africa.
South Africa start their Group A campaign at the COSAFA Under-17 Championships with a fixture against Seychelles in Curepipe on Saturday. That is followed by further games against Namibia (July 25) and hosts Mauritius (July 27).
The top two sides in each pool advance to the semifinals, with the final to be played on July 31.
