SAFA hosts FIFA workshop for Technical Directors

The opening day of the FIFA Technical Directors’ Course got off to a grand start on Tuesday, where the South African Football Association (SAFA) is hosting a three-day workshop tailor-made for Technical Directors of various FAs.

A total of 25 Technical Directors from across the African continent have gathered at the SAFA Headquarters for the sought-after workshop conducted by highly experienced FIFA and CAF instructors with the aim of further equipping the Technical Instructors with the necessary tools and knowledge to better execute their roles at their respective Associations.

The three-day workshop, which touches on various topics in modern football such as National Football Philosophies, the role of a TD in coaching education and Management Elite Youth Programmes, will go a long way in aiding the development of football for the various TD’s on the continent.

Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, SAFA TD Neil Tovey, a former Bafana Bafana international, emphasised the importance of such workshops.

“This is going to be fruitful week of sharing knowledge and experiences as to how we can better perform our duties in this important role that we play as Technical Directors. Modern football requires such workshops for us to continuously measure ourselves and improve our craft as Technical Directors. We believe that come the end of the course, each TD will go back home better equipped and skilled,” said Tovey.

The first such workshop was conducted in Malawi in 2016 and this one has been described as bigger and better. The workshop concludes on Thursday.
