Makgantai eyes individual accolades in COSAFA Cup

Botswana striker Onkabetse Makgantai, who is having an excellent 2018 COSAFA Cup with The Zebras, is aiming to repeat the magic of 2016 edition by winning individual awards at the end of the competition.

The speedy striker was voted the Player of the Tournament during the 2016 COSAFA Cup held in Namibia. Makgantai told COSAFA.com he is enjoying his game and doing his best to help the team.

Makgantai is currently the tournament top-scorer with four goals and has been voted Man of the Match on two occasions in this year’s competition. He is also Botswana’s joint all-time leading scorer in the COSAFA Cup with five goals, the same number as teammate Kabelo Seakanyeng.

“Remember I missed the tournament last year as I was still settling at my new club AS Vita in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” Makgantai said. “Now it is the time to showcase my skills and maybe attract attention of scouts to get myself an offer from abroad.”

The inform striker, who is currently on loan at Orapa United from AS Vita Club, says he is eyeing a move to either South Africa, Egypt or Tunisia as his style of play can suit those leagues. Makgantai is ready for another challenge because his contract with Vita Club is coming to an end soon.

Makgantai will be looking to increase his goals tally when Botswana face Swaziland in the COSAFA Cup Plate semi-final on Tuesday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium (kick-off 19h30, 17h30 GMT).

That game will be preceded by the other Plate semifinal between hosts South Africa and Namibia at 17h00 (15h00 GMT).
