Madagascar Build For Under-17 Afcon

Madagascar have named their squad for the 2016 COSAFA Under-17 Championships to be staged in Mauritius from July 22-31.

The Malagasy have performed well at COSAFA tournaments in the recent past, finishing third at the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup and claiming the Beach Soccer title that same year.

Their football is on the up and they will be keen to show that improvement in the youngest age-group level in the COSAFA region.

This is especially so as they will host the 2017 African Under-17 Championships next year, where the home side will be keen to put in a strong showing against the continent’s best.

This tournament therefore serves as the start of their preparations for that competition, which will be played from April 2-16.

Madagascar have been drawn in Group B at the COSAFA Under-17 Championships and take on Malawi in their opener on Friday. That is followed by a clash with East African guest nation Kenya on Sunday, and then a fixture against Zambia on July 26.

The top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals. Group A contains hosts Mauritius, South Africa, Namibia and Seychelles.
