EN, FR, PR: South Africa, Madagascar get wins in Mangaung
Hosts South Africa and Madagascar produced victories on match day four of the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup staged at the Toyota Stadium in Mangaung | Bloemfontein on Saturday.
South Africa kept their semifinal hopes alive with a 2-0 Group A victory over Zimbabwe, the first time they have defeated their old foes in the competition.
Kabelo Dlamini converted a first half penalty, while Ime Okon headed in a second goal near the end to make sure of the points.
South Africa wasted numerous other opportunities to score, but will be pleased with the win and the clean sheet.
Mozambique and Mauritius played to a 0-0 draw in the other game in Group B, with The Mambas dominating the chances with their 13 attempts at goal compared to just five for the islanders.
But it was another solid display from Mauritius following their 0-0 draw in their opener against Zimbabwe that leaves them still in contention for a semifinal place going into the final round of fixtures.
Mauritius will be without defender Jean Pascal Colin for their final pool game against South Africa on Tuesday after he received two yellow cards and was sent off in the closing minutes against Mozambique.
Mozambique head the Group A table with four points from two games ahead of their final fixture against Zimbabwe, followed by South Africa (3 points), Mauritius (2) and Zimbabwe (1). All teams remain in contention for the semifinals.
Madagascar opened the three-team Group C with a 1-0 win over East African guest nation Tanzania in the final game on Saturday.
The only goal of the match came on 29 minutes and was scored by Toky Rakotondraibe, who fired low into the back of the net.
Tanzania are now on the back foot in the pool and must beat Eswatini in their next game, and hope the latter defeat the Malagasy to stand a chance of reaching the semifinals.
The action continues on Sunday with two more games in Group B.
Angola continue the defence of their title when they face Lesotho at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium (12h00 CAT / 10h00 GMT). Angola were held 1-1 by Namibia in their opening game, while Lesotho defeated Malawi 1-0.
Another victory for Lesotho will see Palancas Negras eliminated, so the minimum they need is a draw.
Angola have met Lesotho more than any other team in the competition, with this being their ninth clash. Angola lead the head-to-head 5-2 with one draw from the previous eight games.
Namibia take on Malawi at 15h00 CAT (13h00 GMT) in a battle between two sides who need a win. Malawi certainly cannot afford to drop more points with only the top team in each pool advancing to the semifinals.
Namibia and Malawi have clashed in six previous occasions in the tournament with the Namibians 3-1 ahead to go with two draws.

L’Afrique du Sud se reprend, Madagascar débute bien
Maurice a enregistré un deuxième match nul dans la HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup 2025. Le Club M a été tenu en échec par le Mozambique samedi (0-0) au terme de son second match dans le groupe A. Les quadricolores, bien qu’entreprenants, ont failli subir le retour du Mozambique en seconde mi-temps. Ils peuvent notamment remercier le gardien Kevin Jean-Louis, auteur de plusieurs arrêts décisifs.
Le plus déterminant est arrivé à la 76e minute suite à un tir surpuissant. Solide sur sa ligne, il a gardé Maurice à flot. Ce match nul n’arrange pas les affaires des Dodos qui occupent le troisième rang avec deux points. Le Mozambique est toujours leader avec quatre unités. De leur côté, les Sud-Africains se sont bien rachetés en dominant le Zimbabwe 2-0. Dlamini a ouvert le score sur penalty avant qu’Okon ne rajoute un second but.
Cette victoire soignée permet aux Sud-Africains de gommer en partie la déception du premier match où ils avaient été battus. Ils ont encore une chance d’accéder en demi-finale. Madagascar a offert une belle leçon de football, combinant passes précises, jeu tourné vers l’avant et solidarité défensive. Les Malgaches ont pris le meilleur sur la Tanzanie en s’imposant 1-0. Toky Niaina a été l’unique buteur dans ce match maîtrisé par les Barea. Il a trouvé la faille juste avant la demi-heure de jeu.
L’Angola affronte le Lesotho ce dimanche à midi, alors qu’à 15h, la Namibie sera aux prises avec le Malawi. Dans ce groupe B, c’est le Lesotho qui tient la corde actuellement avec une victoire acquise face au Malawi il y a trois jours. De leur côté, les Angolais, champions en titre, n’ont pu faire mieux qu’un match nul face à la Namibie (1-1) au terme de leur sortie inaugurale.
Dans le groupe B, le Lesotho est en tête, fort de sa récente victoire contre le Malawi. Cette performance a permis à l’équipe de prendre confiance et de mettre la pression sur ses adversaires. Les joueurs devront capitaliser sur cet élan positif pour confirmer leur statut de favoris face aux Angolais.
De leur côté, les Angolais, champions en titre, n’ont pas été à la hauteur de leurs ambitions lors de leur première sortie. Le match nul (1-1) contre la Namibie a laissé un goût amer, et ils devront redoubler d’efforts pour éviter une désillusion. Le défi est de taille, car il leur faudra non seulement retrouver leur efficacité offensive, mais également solidifier leur défense face à une équipe du Lesotho en pleine forme.
África do Sul redime-se e Moçambique a um passo das “meias”
A Selecção Olímpica de Futebol de Moçambique mantém vivas as esperanças de transitar para as meias-finais da 24ª edição da Taça COSAFA, mas o desfecho do Grupo A ainda está envolto em incertezas. Após duas jornadas disputadas, os “Mambinhas” lideram o grupo com quatro pontos, fruto de uma vitória conseguidasobre a África do Sul (1-0) e um empate sem golos, hoje, frente às Maurícias. Contudo, a margem de segurança é estreita, e o próximo confronto, agendado para terça-feira, dia 10 de Junho, frente ao Zimbabwe, será decisivo.
A tabela classificativa reflecte o equilíbrio do grupo. Moçambique, com quatro pontos, é seguido de perto pela África do Sul, que, após a vitória por 2-0 sobre o Zimbabwe – com golos de Kabelo Dlamini, de grande penalidade, e Ime Okon – soma três pontos. As Maurícias ocupam o terceiro lugar com dois pontos, enquanto o Zimbabwe é último, com apenas um. Neste cenário, Moçambique depende apenas de si para garantir a qualificação, mas o empate frente às Maurícias, num jogo onde foi dominante, mas ineficaz, deixou sinais de alerta.
