EN, FR, PR: Depu makes history as Angola defeat Lesotho in Mangaung
Angola’s Depu moved joint top of the all-time scorers list in the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup as he netted a hat-trick to help Palancas Negras to a 4-0 victory over Lesotho in their Group B clash at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Mangaung | Bloemfontein on Sunday.
Namibia and Malawi played to a goalless draw in the other fixture in the pool, which means defending champions Angola top the group with four points, followed by Lesotho (3 points), Namibia (2) and Malawi (1).
It will be all to play for in the final round of fixtures on Tuesday, when Angola take on Malawi and Lesotho meet Namibia.
Angola secured the biggest win of the competition to date when they defeated Lesotho, with much of the damage done in the first half.
Vidinho put the side ahead with a header from a corner on 42 minutes later, and shortly afterwards it was 2-0 when Depu headed in from a cross by Milson.
Angola then added a third shortly after the break as Depu netted his second with another header to make sure of the points.
But he was not done yet and a delightful chip from Manuel’s pass saw him complete his hat-trick, and score his fourth of the competition.
Depu was the Golden Boot recipient as Angola lifted the trophy in 2024 with five goals in the competition. Add to that his four goals this term and his career tally is nine, matching the all-time HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup record holder Felix Badenhorst of Eswatini, who also has nine goals.
Namibia and Malawi could not be separated in the other game in the pool, with The Flames managing eight attempts at goal to the Brave Warriors’ three.
The action continues on Monday when Madagascar will seek to earn a semi-final place with a victory over Eswatini in the three-team Group C (15h00 CAT / 13h00 GMT).
They opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Tanzania, and another three points will give them an unassailable lead in the pool. Only the top team in each group advances to the semi-finals.
Madagascar and Eswatini have met five times before and the island nation are still seeking their first win. Eswatini have claimed three victories to go with two draws.
Comoros also opened with a win in Group D when they beat record seven-time winners Zambia 1-0 in their first fixture. Next up is Botswana (18h00; 16h00 GMT) and they are in the same boat as the Malagasy, where another three points will see them advance.
Comoros will hope for a first win against Botswana, having a defeat and a draw against them in the past. They are yet to score a goal.

Victoire de l’Angola avec un grand Dilson
La 5e journée de la HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup a permis à l’Angola de retrouver des couleurs. Les Angolais se sont imposés 4-0 contre le Lesotho dimanche, avec un triplé de Dilson. Dans l’autre rencontre, la Namibie et le Malawi se sont quittés sur un match nul et vierge, ce qui n’arrange pas leur situation.
L’Angola a tiré les leçons nécessaires après son match nul contre la Namibie en ouverture du groupe B. Les Angolais, champions en titre, ont cette fois déroulé contre le Lesotho. Ils se sont imposés 4-0, avec notamment un triplé de Dilson. Ce dernier est entré dans l’histoire de la COSAFA Cup. Avec ce triplé, son total dans le tournoi s’élève à neuf réalisations. Il avait marqué cinq buts au cours de l’édition 2024.
Ainsi, Dilson revient à hauteur de Felix Badenhorst. L’Eswatinien était jusqu’ici le meilleur buteur de l’histoire de la COSAFA Cup, avec neuf buts inscrits au total. De son côté, l’avenir s’annonce radieux pour le jeune Dilson, qui peut encore aller plus loin dans cette compétition et qui a une belle marge pour les prochains tournois. Pour en revenir à l’explication contre le Lesotho, c’est Nanque qui a ouvert le score à la 43e minute. Dilson a ensuite mis son équipe à l’abri juste avant la pause, débutant son festival qui allait s’achever sur le gong.
Dans le deuxième match, nous avons assisté à une rencontre musclée entre la Namibie et le Malawi. Mais au coup de sifflet final, aucune des deux formations n’est parvenue à prendre les trois points, le match s’achevant sur le score de 0-0. Malgré quelques occasions franches, les deux adversaires ont souvent pêché dans la finition. Ce nul n’arrange en rien les affaires des deux équipes. La Namibie est troisième de son groupe avec deux points, tandis que le Malawi est dernier et n’a toujours pas décroché de succès.
Ce lundi, Madagascar affrontera l’Eswatini et tentera de valider son billet pour la demi-finale. Auteur d’un match maîtrisé contre la Tanzanie samedi, les Malgaches tenteront de reproduire le même scénario pour passer ce premier tour. En face, l’Eswatini fera ses débuts dans cette édition et aura pour objectif de commencer idéalement.
Dans le groupe D, les Comores auront les mêmes ambitions que les Barea. Victorieux au terme de leur match inaugural contre la Zambie, les Coelacanthes arrivent en forme. Ils joueront leur qualification contre le Botswana. Les Botswanais ont toujours su tirer leur épingle du jeu dans ce tournoi et chercheront à ne pas manquer leurs débuts.
“Hat-trick” de Depu relança Angola, Malawi e Namíbia empatam!
Angola, atcual campeã da Taça COSAFA, deu um passo firme rumo às meias-finais da edição de 2025 ao golear o Lesotho por 4-0, em jogo válido pela segunda jornada do Grupo B, no Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium. O grande destaque da partida foi o avançado Laurindo Aurélio, conhecido como Depu, que marcou três dos quatro golos angolanos (45′, 51′, 90′), somando um “hat-trick” decisivo. O outro golo foi apontado por Nanque, que inaugurou o marcador. Com esta vitória, Angola assume a liderança do grupo com quatro pontos, ultrapassando o Lesotho, que agora possui três. Namíbia e Malawi, que empataram sem golos na outra partida do grupo, ocupam a terceira e quarta posições, com dois e um ponto, respetivamente.
Depu, eleito o melhor jogador em campo, reafirmou a sua importância na competição. O avançado, que foi o melhor marcador da edição de 2024 com cinco golos, já soma quatro nesta edição, atingindo um total de nove na sua carreira na Taça COSAFA. Com isso, igualou o recorde histórico do torneio, detido por Felix Badenhorst, do Eswatini. A equipa angolana, orientada pelo técnico português Pedro Gonçalves, dominou amplamente a partida desde o início, demonstrando um futebol eficaz e ofensivo que mantém viva a ambição de revalidar o título conquistado no ano passado.
Com a vitória, Angola chega à última jornada da fase de grupos em posição favorável para garantir a classificação às meias-finais. Segundo o regulamento da Taça COSAFA, apenas os primeiros colocados de cada um dos quatro grupos avançam para a próxima fase. O vencedor do Grupo B enfrentará o líder do Grupo C, enquanto o primeiro do Grupo A medirá forças com o líder do Grupo D. Angola encerrará a fase de grupos no dia 10 de Junho, enfrentando o Malawi no Toyota Stadium, às 18h00, no mesmo horário em que Namíbia e Lesotho se enfrentarão no Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium.
A situação no Grupo B ainda está em aberto, com todas as seleções a dependerem de resultados específicos para alcançar a classificação. Angola, líder com quatro pontos, garante a vaga em caso de vitória sobre o Malawi. Um empate também pode ser suficiente, desde que Namíbia e Lesotho não vençam ou que o saldo de golos seja favorável aos angolanos. O Lesotho, actualmente em segundo lugar com três pontos, precisa vencer a Namíbia e torcer para que Angola não vença o Malawi. A Namíbia, por sua vez, precisa vencer o Lesotho e esperar que Angola não passe de um empate contra o Malawi, além de contar com um saldo de golos superior. Já o Malawi, mesmo em último com apenas um ponto, ainda tem hipóteses matemáticas de classificação. Para isso, precisa vencer Angola e torcer por um empate entre Namíbia e Lesotho, dependendo também do saldo de golos.
A última jornada do Grupo B promete emoções fortes, com todas as seleções ainda na luta pela única vaga disponível nas meias-finais.
Paralelamente, os jogos da segunda jornada dos Grupos C e D, marcados para o dia 9 de Junho, amanhã, também definirão os futuros líderes. Madagáscar enfrentará o Eswatini no Grupo C, enquanto Comores e Botswana se enfrentarão no Grupo D. A Taça COSAFA 2025, que termina no dia 15 de junho, continua a proporcionar momentos de grande competitividade, com as equipas a darem o máximo na disputa pelo título.
