COSAFA to leave a legacy in Lesotho at Region 5 Games Maseru 2020

COSAFA’s mandate is to grow the game on and off the pitch and over the years has developed a remarkable reputation for giving back to local communities wherever tournaments are held.

The Region 5 Games Maseru 2020 will be no exception, with a range of courses, workshops, and festivals to help upskill local referees, coaches, administrators, and players via COSAFA’s expert instructors.

Here is a list of the off-pitch activities that will leave a lasting legacy in Lesotho.

 

REFEREES COURSE
The referees who will officiate at the Region 5 Games Maseru 2020 and some invited guests are being put through their paces with a refresher course ahead of the competition. It is already underway and will end on Sunday, ensuring the match officials and in top condition going into the tournaments.

 

D-LICENCE COACHING COURSE
The course will be held for 20 local aspiring coaches to set them on the path to a career in the game with a D-Licence, which has become a fixture at COSAFA events.
The grassroots coaches got put through their paces over a week of intense training that provides a platform for their future careers. It will run from Dec. 1-8.
Once coaches have obtained their D-Licence, they can start moving up the coaching ladder, so it is a crucial stage in their development.

 

ADMINISTRATION COURSE
Renowned FIFA Instructor Ashford Mamelodi will run a course for 20 budding administrators that will guide them through the finer points of running clubs, associations, and tournaments. This will be hosted at the Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village and run from Dec. 3-7.

 

GIRLS UNDER-15 LEGACY TOURNAMENT
Local Girls’ Under-15 teams from around the region contest a tournament that will be played Dec. 4-5 and involves 10 teams.
It has become a welcome tradition to play competitions in this vital age-group at COSAFA events, giving youngsters the chance to showcase their potential.

 

YOUTH FESTIVAL
The Youth Festival, in conjunction with LaLiga Santander, will be held on the same day as the finals in the Boys’ and Girls’ football competitions and will see 8-0 participants put through their paces by the coaches who attended the D-Licence course.
There will also be giveaways of equipment and a chance for youngsters to be involved in a fun-filled occasion that celebrates football.
