Chambeshi cagey over selection for Madagascar semifinal

Chipolopolo coach Beston Chambeshi is cagey as to whether he will make any adjustments to the team after they stuttered against Namibia in Saturday’s 2018 COSAFA Cup quarterfinal before advancing on post-match penalties.

The four-time champions toiled to a 4-3 shootout win over Namibia following a 0-0 draw at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Chipolopolo face Madagascar on Wednesday in their penultimate stage tie at the same venue.

“It is too early to say and we have just played the first game so we have to hold on to the team that played on Saturday unless they are injuries,” Chambeshi told COSAFA.com after Monday morning training in Polokwane.

“But we would like to stick to the team because we don’t have any time to make changes.”

Meanwhile, Chambeshi has disclosed that midfielder John Chinagndu and defender Isaac Shamujompa are fit for selection against Madagascar.

Chingandu limped off in the 69th minute of the quarterfinal tie and the Zesco United midfielder was replaced by Nkana striker Ronald Kampamba.

Shamujompa has been certified fit following his recent recovery from Malaria and was on the sidelines against Namibia.

“Shamujompa, who was sick, is better and is training with us and John Chingangu who suffered a knock on Saturday is also back training with us,” Chambeshi said.
