African Stars celebrate Namibia title in style

The 2022/23 Namibia Premier League season came to a conclusion this past weekend as African Stars celebrated their championship win in style with a 6-1 victory over Young African.

League football returned to Namibia this season for the first time since 2018/19 and African Stars ran away with the title, finishing a full 12 points ahead of Blue Waters in second place.

It is a sixth domestic league title for the club and their first since 2017/18, which will gain them entry into the CAF Champions League next season should they take up their spot.

But it was not a good campaign for the country’s most successful club, Black Africa, who were relegated from the topflight after finishing third bottom.

They had been the previous champions in 2018/19, their 10th domestic league win, but struggled in this current campaign.

It might not be the end of the story though, Black Africa chairman Silvester Goraseb said last week there would be no promotion or relegation in the league this season, but this was denied by Namibia Football Association (NFA) acting general secretary Jochen Traut.
