Phokeng based amateur side, Luckys Pub has won a grand opportunity to represent South Africa in the inaugural Castle Best Brew League after winning the South African leg of the Five-a-side football Tournament on Saturday.
The Best Brew League tournaments have taken place in Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, with the top teams from each region making it through to the finals that will be held in Rustenburg from 6-10 July 2017.
Luckys Pub beat Kopanang Tavern 3-1 to secure their ticket to represent the hosts at the Castle Best Brew League Finals which will be held in Rustenburg, where this year’s COSAFA Castle Cup is currently ongoing.
The Rustenburg based side captain Thapelo Kagabileng thanked sponsors Castle Lager for a highly successful tournament and the opportunity given to represent South Africa against some of the best amateur sides in the Best Brew League five-a-side spectacle.
“We played well throughout the tournament,” says a delighted Pikinini as the skipper is commonly known amongst his friends.
“From the onset we had the right attitude, and realised the opportunity that was at hand and grabbed it with both hands. Credit to Castle for this opportunity. Many of us now will realise our childhood dreams of representing our country in this exciting five-a-side challenge.”
“We are really looking forward to representing Mzansi with pride and do so under the leadership of Brian Baloyi, whom I feel will play a big role in refining our play and certainly one that can compete.” added Kagabileng.
Luckys Pub will now receive a one-on-one coaching session and mentorship from the former Bafana Bafana player “Spiderman”, who is a Castle Best Brew League Ambassador along with other SADC greats like Dipsy Selolwane, Rotson Kilambe, Lehlohonolo Seema and Tinashe Nengomashe.
In conjunction with its partnership to COSAFA, as the main sponsor of the 2017 COSAFA Castle Cup in the North-West province of South Africa, Castle Lager saw the need to expose their consumers who are avid football fans to international level.
The Phokeng side will now be competing against seven other teams from across the SADC region, experiencing the football culture as well as attending some of the matches at the Moruleng and Royal Bafokeng stadium.
