The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) recently held elections that saw president Walter Nyamilandu-Manda retain his position for a further four years.

Nyamilandu-Manda, who has led the organisation for the past 12 years, claimed a landslide win after receiving 27 of the 36 votes cast.

Should he see out his new four-year term he will be the longest serving FAM president in history.

“I’m a happy man after getting a new mandate,” Nyamilandu-Manda said.

The former national team centre-back said he would use his new term to further develop the game in the country.

Malawi were ousted by Tanzania in the first round of qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but are still in the running for a place at the 2017 African Nations Cup in Gabon.

The team is currently third in a pool that includes COSAFA rivals Swaziland and Zimbabwe, as well as Guinea.
