2016 AUSC Zone 5 Games – Day Three Wrap

Hosts of the 2016 edition of the AUSC Zone 5 Youth Games, Angola finally got their first points on the board in the football competition on Monday afternoon, when the boys played to an exciting 1-1 draw against Zambia and the girls managed to beat Zimbabwe 2-0.

Zambia opened the scoring in the early stages of the match when Castrio Choolwe converted from the penalty spot in the third minute. After Angola had missed numerous chances throughout the match, Jose Capitao managed to get a world class goal in the 28th minute when his powerful shot got the crowds out of their seats, as they celebrated Angola’s opening goal of the tournament.

The Angolan national girls team managed to get their first three points of the tournament after beating Zimbabwe 2-0 out at 11 de Novembro Stadium. Goals from Jemima Pedro Kindumbo and Germana Fernandes gave the hosts the much need boost ahead of their last match later in the week.

South Africa managed to stay on top of the girls competition after beating neighbours Namibia 2-0 in their second match of the tournament. The hard-fought win was obtained by Sibulele Holweni in the 55th minute, when she got her second goal of the tournament, and Karabo Dlamini, who scored in the 62 minute to make her leading goal scorer of the tournament.

The last match of the day for the boys between Zimbabwe and Swaziland was a thriller as Swaziland had to dig deep to rectify their first half errors, which saw then 2-0 down at halftime.

Two defensive errors from Swaziland gave Trust Maseko and Ishmael Munsaka the opportunity to net twice in the space of 10 minutes; while Zimbabwe’s third goals was scored in the 48th minute by promising midfielder Junior Nyamuzihna.

Swaziland put up an impressed second half comeback, with goals from Mcebisi Dlamini in the 60th minute and Wandile Dlamini in the 65th minute; however they still lost the match 3-2.

The last round of matches in the 2016 Edition of the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games will be played on Wednesday in Luanda.
