Zambia ready for 2018 COSAFA Women’s Championship opener

Zambia have had their final training session before their 2018 COSAFA Women’s Championship Group B match against Lesotho on Thursday with coach Beauty Mwamba declaring the squad ready for battle.

And skipper Misozi Zulu says the squad is focused on the first game at the ongoing Cosafa Womens Championship in Port Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, striker Barbara Banda says the first match will be very important for Zambia if they are to realize their plan of topping the group.

Mwamba said the team had done everything possible to prepare for the opening fixture at the Wolfson Stadium.

“We are very much ready for the game…We need the three points if we are to get out of the group. Of course our eyes are on the three points,” she said.

Mwamba however cautiously said that her lasses would now restrict their focus to immediate fixtures.

“We will take each game as it comes. We need the people’s support, we will do our best,” she said.

The versatile team captain in Zulu said the team was game for the Lesotho encounter.

“Our aim is to win tomorrow. Our chances are good in the group. We are ready for any team,” she said

And Banda who was part last year’s bronze winning side expressed confidence of victory,

“The first game is important, it will determine where we are going so for us it is a must win game,” she said.

The team held its final training session at the Nelson Mandela University Stadium.

Kickoff for the match is at 15h30 (11h30 GMT) with Kwese TV beaming the tournament live.
