Venues for the 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship

The 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship will be played in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from September 13-24.

There will be two venues used for the 12-team competition, the biggest ever field assembled for the regional showpiece tournament.

Here is quick synopsis of the stadia that will be used in Zimbabwe’s second largest city.

BARBOURFIELDS STADIUM
The Barbourfields Stadium is the man venue in Bulawayo and a 40,000-seater multi-purpose ground with a rich history of some fantastic football matches. The venue is home to top Bulawayo club Highlanders, and its field have been graced by some of the greatest names in Zimbabwe football.

Other Bulawayo-based teams have also used the venue in recent years, including How Mine FC and Chicken Inn. The Barbourfields Stadium is the second largest in Zimbabwe after the National Stadium in Harare, and is fondly called ‘Emagumeni’, meaning ‘our backyard’.

The ground was certified to host Confederation of African Football (CAF) just last year when Chicken Inn took on South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.
