Rollers continue to fly COSAFA flag in Champions League

COSAFA club Township Rollers from Botswana continued their brilliant run in this year’s African Champions League with a 2-1 away victory over Young Africans from Tanzania in the first leg of their second round clash on Tuesday.

Rollers were one of a number of Southern African sides in action as the teams make a bid for the pool stages of the continent’s club competitions.

Having ousted top Sudanese side Al-Meirrekh in the previous round, Rollers now have a valuable away win that will make them favourites to advance to the 16-team pool stage in Africa’s elite competition.

Lemponye Tshireletso and Motsholetsi Sikele scored against Young Africans, and Rollers will be confident of completing the job in the return leg on March 17.

In the African Confederation Cup, COSAFA sides Petro Atletico (Angola) and SuperSport United (South Africa) played to a goalless draw in Luanda, though it was the latter who had the better of the play.

It was not such a good outing for Zambian side Nkana though as they lost 3-0 at Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad and now face an uphill battle to make the next stage.

A further nine COSAFA sides will be in action on Wednesday as the competition continues.
