Mozambique to make second appearance at COSAFA schools Qualifier

Mozambique will feature for a second time in the CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifiers when they take their place at the fourth edition, to be staged in Stellenbosch, South Africa, from December 5–7.

Mozambique did not take part in the inaugural year in Malawi, nor in 2024 in Namibia, but were present when the qualifiers were held in Harare, Zimbabwe, two years ago.

The Girls’ side finished third in Harare, while the Boys’ team did not make it out of their pool but produced a very promising showing.

They recorded wins over Eswatini (2-0) and Botswana (4-1), but lost to Malawi and Zimbabwe, both by 3-0 scorelines. That meant they finished third in their pool.

The Girls went unbeaten through the pool stage, with their eight points enough to see them into the bronze-medal match.

They claimed wins over Eswatini (2-0) and Zimbabwe (3-0), and earned draws with Malawi (0-0) and Botswana (1-1).

It meant the side finished second in their pool and missed out on the final, but there was some consolation with a 4-0 success over Namibia to take bronze.

It will be a new group of players that competes in Stellenbosch in 2025, but schools football is clearly strong in Mozambique and they will likely be contenders in both competitions.

The draw for this year’s 11-team tournament will be made a few days be
