Mozambique edge Zambia to qualify for FIFA Futsal World Cup!

COSAFA side Mozambique have booked a place at the 2016 Futsal FIFA World Cup to be staged in Colombia from September 10 to October 1.

The Mambas defeated regional rivals Zambia in a thrilling third-place play-off at the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in Johannesburg on Sunday, claiming a 2-1 victory on post-match penalties after the teams had played to 5-5 draw.

Mozambique, along with finalists Egypt and Morocco, have all sealed their place at the global event where they will represent the African continent in the indoor game.

It is hard luck for Zambia, who had run Egypt close in their semifinal only to lose 5-4, and will have to wait another four years for the chance to qualify for the World Cup.

Mozambique will be seeking to become the first African country to reach the Last 4 of the World Cup, which was first played in the Netherlands in 1989.

Brazil have dominated the global showpiece since, winning five titles, with Spain’s two victories making them the only other nation to lift the ultimate Futsal prize.
