Mixed weekend for COSAFA sides in CAF competition

It was a mixed weekend of action for the COSAFA sides competing in the CAF Confederation Cup play-off round over the past few days.

Congo-Brazzaville side AC Léopards edged Swaziland champions Mbabane Swallows 1-0 in the home tie of their clash.

After a goalless first half in which Swallows had Richard McCreesh red-carded, Leopards took the lead in the final minute of ordinary time when Junior Makiese headed home.

Swallows though they had an equaliser, and a crucial away goal, when they Mydo Kingu headed home, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Tunisian giants Club African claimed a 2-1 win in Mauritius against AS Port-Louis 2000 that will be difficult to overturn for the islanders, while it was a mixed weekend for the trio of South African clubs still in the tournament.

BidVest Wits were held 0-0 at home by Egyptian side Smouha and face a stern test in the return in Borg el-Arab on Saturday, while Platinum Stars lost 2-0 in the Ivory Coast against AS Tanda.

The side with perhaps the best opportunity to advance is SuperSport United, who claimed a 1-1 draw in Liberia against Barrack Young Controllers.

Zambian champions ZESCO United earned an excellent 2-2 draw with Enugu Rangers in Nigeria and are in the driving seat in their tie with the home leg to come.

Madagascan side CNaPS Sport were held to a 1-1 draw at home by regional rivals Recreativo do Libolo of Angola in a fixture that could go either way.
