Malawi Super League coaches ready to go digital!

Malawi Super League team coaches have committed to embrace the use of technology in coaching from the 2020 Season.

Speaking after a two-day Refresher Coaching Course for Super League and National team coaches, Ntopwa coach Trevor Kajawa said they have appreciated the need to adopt the use of technology as the game changer in modern coaching.

In his speech when he opened the course on Monday FAM President Walter Nyamilandu challenged the coaches to embrace the use of technology in analysing team performance and opponents as one way of improving football in the country.

“Football is a game of tactics and these tactics are changing everyday, we have been using the Progressive Coaching model but now we have learnt the GAG model which is new and we need to keep updating ourselves through the use of the internet.

“We have to accept that the world has gone digital and if you want to be a modern coach, you need to go by the times so we are ready to embrace technology,” said Kajawa.

Chitipa United Coach Alex Ngwira hailed FAM for the course, which he said provided a rare platform for the coaches to interact and share experiences and knowledge ahead of the new season.

“We are happy to have been the pioneers of this great initiative by FAM. We have reminded each other of what we ought to be doing but most importantly, we have also learnt about the Global Analytical and Global (GAG) coaching model which is new to most of us. The new knowledge will give us best options to prepare our teams in the new season,” said Ngwira.

FAM Technical Development Officer Benjamin Kumwenda , who was one of the facilitators, said they expect improvement in the coaches’ tactical approaches when the season starts.

“It has been a great course and everyone wanted to learn from the other. As they are going back to their teams, we expect them to change how they organise their training sessions as well as variations in their match tactics,” said Kumwenda.

FAM has committed to be holding the course before the start of the season every year.
