Malawi star makes history in Italy

Malawi striker Tabitha Chawinga has made history after becoming the first African player to win the Women’s Serie A Golden Boot.

Chawinga netted 23 goals for Inter Milan this past season, finishing eight ahead of Juventus’ Cristiana Gireli in what has been a personal triumph for the 27-year-old.

Not that it is any surprise, she has already won Golden Boot awards in Sweden and China, and is one of the most prolific forwards the African continent has seen.

Chawinga has also left her mark in the COSAFA Women’s Championship, where she has been a star player for Malawi in the past.

What the future holds will be interesting to see, with Chawinga only on loan at Inter from Chinese side Wuhan Jianghan University.

Malawi will hope she is available for this year’s COSAFA Women’s Championship, which is set to be staged in Gqeberha from Aug. 23-Sept. 3.
