Madagascar go for mix of youth and experience

Madagascar coach Joharinirina Rakotomalala has named his squad for the 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championships to be staged in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from September 13-24.

Rakotomalala has gone for a mix of youth and experience in his selection, with the oldest player forward Henintsoa Razanamahery at 31, and the youngest 18-year-old midfielder Andoniaina Rasamison.

Madagascar will feature at the COSAFA Women’s Championships for the first time having missed the previous four instalments of the regional showpiece competition with the country only recently having played their first official international.

The team has steadily improved and finished runners-up at the 2015 Indian Ocean Games, losing in the decider to Reunion.

They have been drawn in Group A at the COSAFA Women’s Championships along with hosts Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi.

The Malagasy will open their campaign against Zimbabwe on September 13.
