HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup has massive implications for teams

It is a busy week of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as those COSAFA sides still in contention for a place in the finals in Ivory Coast next January battle to secure their berths.

But it is also a time for coaches to look ahead to the 2023 HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup that will be staged in Durban from July 5-16 and this is reflected in our latest episode of The COSAFA Show.

We speak to Botswana coach Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote about his team’s upcoming match against Libya in the Nations Cup qualifiers, but also his thoughts on the new-look COSAFA Cup and why it is such an important tournament this year.

He will be using it to build towards the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which are scheduled to get under way in November.

He also gives his thoughts on Botswana players abroad and the general state of football in the country in a wide-ranging interview.

We will also hear from South Africa coach Hugo Broos as they prepare to take on mighty Morocco in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Both teams have already qualified for the continental finals next January, but that does not mean this would not be a major scalp for either side.

Broos has warned his players not to slack off at the end of what has been a long season.
