COSAFA clubs campaign in CAF club competitions this past weekend picked up some notable results that will give them confidence they can progress further in the continent’s two major tournaments.

Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa managed an excellent 2-0 home victory over AC Leopards of the Congo in the CAF Champions League and having kept a clean-sheet have all the odds stacked in their favour for the return leg on Saturday.

Zambian champions Zesco United thrashed Horoya from Guinea 4-1 in the home leg of their tie and will be confident of finishing the job the reverse fixture.

Angola side Recreativo do Libolo held Egyptian giants Al Ahly to a 0-0 draw in their home leg and now know if they can sneak a goal in the return in Cairo on Saturday it will leave their hosts needing to score twice.

South African champions Kaizer Chiefs have some work to do after they lost 1-0 at home to Ivory Coast side ASEC Abidjan and must now do the business in west Africa at the weekend.

It was also a disappointing outing for Madagascar champions CNaPS Sport as they were beaten 5-1 by Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca.

Moving on to the CAF Confederation Cup and Zambian side Zanaco claimed a crucial 2-1 away victory over Harare City that now puts them in the pound seats ahead of the return at home.

Angolan side Sagrada Esperança edged Mozambican outfit Liga Desportiva de Maputo 1-0 in the home leg of their tie, but South African side BidVest Wits fielded an inexperienced line-up against Azam from Tanzania and lost 3-0.
