COSAFA president Dr Philip Chiyangwa has been appointed vice-president of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) African Nations Cup organising committee that oversees the selection of hosts and administration of the continent’s flagship tournament.
Dr Chiyangwa will work alongside Nigerian Football Association Amaju Pinnick, who is president of the committee.
“It’s always nice to consolidate the influence across African football and to be part of an important committee like this one for CAF,” Dr Chiyangwa said.
“We are looking forward to our first assignment when we go to Cameroon in June to look at the facilities there and the progress being made.
“Our committee will review and reform the organisation of the competitions so in short we are givers and takers of AFCON tournaments.
“Previously it was the prerogative of the CAF president to decide where and when these tournaments would be held, but now the power has shifted to the committees.”
