Mamelodi Sundowns have invited teenage Zimbabwe striker Delic Murimba for trials after he impressed club scouts in the recent COSAFA Under-20 Championships in Zambia.
Murimba netted five goals in the tournament to finished as joint leading scorer along with Monaco and South Africa forward Lyle Foster.
The 19-year-old plays for Triangle United in his homeland, but will fly to Johannesburg on Monday to start a 10-day assessment by Sundowns, with the move facilitated by former Zimbabwe junior international Butler Masango, who now runs an academy in South Africa.
“I enjoy a sound working relationship with Mamelodi Sundowns coach [Pitso Mosimane] and has always been requesting that I recommend any special young talent from Zimbabwe,” Masango told The Herald.
“I told him about Delic as well as [midfielder] Panashe Mutasa. This prompted him to send the team scouts to Zambia where there was the COSAFA Under-20 Championships.
“They were impressed by Murimba as well as Zimbabwe goalkeeper Tinotenda Ali.”
Delic Murimba scored against South Africa in the final of the COSAFA tournament last month, and showed through the competition that he is a player with great pace and composure in the box.
His trial is yet another validation of the platform that COSAFA tournaments give players from around the region to showcase their talent.
