A number of COSAFA nations were involved in draws for upcoming Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) competitions on Thursday.
Draws for the CAF Women’s Futsal AFCON, Morocco 2025, CAF CHAN 2024 2nd Stage Qualifiers, CAF U-17 AFCON, Morocco 2025 and CAF U-20 AFCON, Cote d’Ivoire 2025 were staged in Cairo, with the following outcomes for COSAFA teams.
CAF WOMEN’S FUTSAL AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS, MOROCCO 2025
Host country Morocco has been drawn in Group A alongside Cameroon and Namibia.
Pool B will feature Angola, Egypt and Guinea, while Group C contains Madagascar, Tanzania and Senegal.
The three group winners and best third-placed side advance to the semi-finals. The tournament is to be played from April 22-30.
The two finalists will represent Africa at the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup which will take place in the Philippines from November 21-December 7.
CAF AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP, KENYA, TANZANIA, UGANDA 2024
Seven nations have entered a second stage of qualifying for the CAF CHAN 2024, including three from COSAFA, Comoros, Malawi and South Africa.
This will be played in a knockout format, with Comoros and Malawi to clash over two legs in the first round. They will then meet the winner of the tie between South Africa and Egypt for a place in the finals.
Should they make the finals that are co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, they will be in Group C along with Uganda, Niger, Guinea and the second qualifier (one of The Gambia, Gabon or Algeria).
CAF U-17 AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS, MOROCCO 2025
This tournament is to be staged in Morocco from March 30-April 19, with 10 of the 16 teams advancing to the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar from November 5-27.
Morocco headline Group A along with Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.
Burkina Faso, South Africa, Egypt and as yet unknown champions of the UNIFFAC qualifiers are in Group B.
Reigning champions Senegal are in Group C along with Gambia, Somalia and Tunisia.
Mali, tournament debutants Angola, Cote d’Ivoire and another qualifier from UNIFFAC are in Group D.
The top two teams in each pool advance to the quarterfinals, while there will be play-offs to determine the other two teams to bring the total of World Cup qualifiers to 10.
CAF U-20 AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS, COTE D’IVOIRE 2025
There are 13 teams taking part in this competition, with the top four qualifying for the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile from September 27 – October 10.
In Group A, hosts Côte d’Ivoire will take on DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and a second representative from the UNIFFAC region.
South Africa are in Group B where they will face Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco.
Group C sees Senegal begin their title defence against Zambia, Kenya and Sierra Leone.
The top two teams and the two best third-placed sides advance to the quarterfinals. The four semifinalists will qualify for the World Cup.
