Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe officiated in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday as Real Madrid defeated Kashima Antlers 4-2 after extra-time to take the title.
Sikazwe was representing the COSAFA region along with assistant referee Jason dos Santos and was given the honour of the deciding game watched by a global audience of hundreds of millions.
Sikazwe was also in the middle during the COSAFA Castle Cup final between South Africa and Botswana played in Namibia in June.
Sunday’s game was his second of the FIFA Club World Cup tournament after he also blew the whistle in Antlers’ preliminary round 2-1 victory over Auckland City.
Sikazwe will now target winning a place at the FIFA World Cup in Russia in 2018.
