COSAFA pleased with progress towards Under-20 Championships

COSAFA are pleased with the progress being made by organisers towards the hosting of the 2017 COSAFA Under-20 Championships in Zambia from December 6-16.

COSAFA General Secretary Sue Destombes recently headed a delegation to inspect the facilities in Kitwe, where the matches will be hosted.

Games will be played at the Nkana Stadium and Arthur Davies Stadium, and Destombes says that preparations are advancing well.

“We are fortunate that these venues regularly see matches played and so they are generally well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure,” she said.

“There are a few things that we still need to rectify, but we are confident that all will be ready for the start of the COSAFA Under-20 Championships and we look forward to another fantastic tournament in Zambia.”

The delegation also looked at other logistics, such as accommodation for the expected 14 teams that will take part in the regional championship.

“We may need to place some teams in Ndola, those are areas that we are still working on,” Destombes said.

Zambia are the holders of the COSAFA Under-20 Championships after their victory over hosts South Africa in 2016.
