COSAFA match officials get World Cup nod

Three match officials from the COSAFA region will officiate at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil as they continue to progress up the ranks within the global body.

South African referee Victor Gomes is among three from the African continent to officiate, along with Jiyed Redouane (Morocco) and Mohamed Amin Omar (Egypt).

There are also two COSAFA assistant referees in Souru Phatsoane (Lesotho) and Lionel Andrianantenaina Hasinjarasoa (Madagascar), who will take part in the event.

Gomes was a referee at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and is highly-regarded on the continent.

Clearly FIFA see him as a potential candidate for the senior World Cup one day.

The FIFA Under-17 World Cup, where Angola will also represent the COSAFA region, will take place in Brasilia from October 26-November 17.
