Comoros return to CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier
Comoros return to the CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier for the first time since the inaugural event was staged in Malawi in 2022 when the latest edition is played in Stellenbosch, South Africa from December 5-7.
On that occasion it was individual schools that competed, and Comoros were represented in the Boys competition by IQRA School and in the Girls’ by GS Ningha.
Both would end up fourth in their competition, a credible finish for the teams.
The Boys competition had two pools of three teams, and IQRA School finished second in Group B with one point from their two games.
They lost 2-0 to Rosinha from Angola but then played to a 0-0 draw with Thamaga JSS from Botswana.
That put them into the semi-finals, where they lost 4-0 to home Malawian side Salima Secondary. They lost again, 3-0 to Rosinha, in the third-place play-off.
The Girls managed to get two draws in their four games in the five-team tournament that was played as a single group, finishing fourth on the table.
They drew 0-0 with Mothamo JSS from Botswana and Anse Boileau from Seychelles, before losing 3-0 to Malindi Secondary of Malawi and 7-1 to eventual champions Edendale Technical from South Africa.
The format of the competition has changed since then, and in 2025 they will instead bring the best players from their national phase competition to represent the country as Comoros rather than any single school.
They will be looking to illustrate the progress they have made in their schools football since their debut three years ago.
