CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier to leave a legacy of knowledge in Stellenbosch
The action will come thick and fast on and off the pitch at the CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier in Stellenbosch next month with a host of activities and workshops planned for players, coaches and local participants.
This marks the fourth edition of the regional qualifier, with South Africa hosting and aiming to secure a fourth consecutive title in both boys’ and girls’ U15 categories.
But as important will be the legacy of knowledge and skills left behind as COSAFA stages a host of activities in conjunction with CAF and partners.
These activities have already got under way. From November 27 to December 4, a Coaching D Licence program will train 30 participants from local high schools, clubs, and academies, organized by SAFA with COSAFA support.
From December 2-6, a Referee Instructors Workshop will accommodate 22 participants and two instructors.
Concurrently, from December 2-4, training for Young Referees will involve 24 CAF referees, 10 local referees aged 15-20 (split evenly by gender), and six instructors.
December 3 features multiple sessions: a Medical Workshop for 25 local doctors, medics, and EMS providers from clubs; a Young Doctors program for 30 high school students; and a Safeguarding session for 15 school educators.
Additionally, a two-day Young Energy Champions Workshop, in partnership with TotalEnergies, will engage 30 high school students.
On December 4, the Grass Roots Festival will involve 80 children and D Licence coaches. A separate Medical Workshop will address 44 team medical personnel.
Young Reporters training begins, running through December 6 for 20 participants.
December 5 includes Safeguarding and Nutrition Presentations for teams, sponsored by Danone.
Football Analytics sessions for 10 D Licence coaches will run December 5-7, alongside a two-day Digital Drill coding workshop for 20 school learners.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier will feature 10 boys’ girls’ U15 teams from COSAFA member nations, competing for a single spot in the continental finals. Angola were initially an 11th participant but have since withdrawn.
