Botswana Football Association President Maclean Letshwiti has been voted onto the COSAFA Executive Committee at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Letshwiti fills the vacancy left by General Pedro Neto, who resigned last year having been sworn in as a Member of Parliament in Angola.
Letshwiti was one of two candidates for the Exco position, but President of the Angolan Football Federation, Artur Almeida e Silva, withdrew from the running before the vote took place.
In other matters on the agenda, the Exco approved Malawi as host of the 2019 COSAFA Under-17 Championships, with the date of the competition to be announced in due course.
The regional finals have been held in Mauritius for the last three years and in 2018 served as qualifiers for the African Under-17 Championships.
Also approved on Saturday was a COSAFA Women’s Under-17 Championship to be staged this year, with the host nation and date still to be determined.
Finally, the COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship was approved for April in the Seychelles.
The Indian Ocean Island hosted the first COSAFA Beach Soccer tournament in 2015 when Madagascar were crowned inaugural winners.
The next Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations is scheduled for Uganda in 2020.
