Angola stun Egypt to set up Algeria semi-final as Morocco clash looms

Angola produced a superb comeback to defeat Egypt 4-2 and finish top of Group B at the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Saturday, setting up a semi-final meeting with tournament debutants Algeria.

Mozambique also ended their campaign on a high with a 4-0 victory over Tanzania as the group stage concluded in Rabat, leaving four nations to battle for the continental crown.

The standout encounter saw Angola recover from two goals down against three-time champions Egypt, who had looked firmly in control when Ibrahim Sayed struck twice inside the opening 14 minutes.

However, the dismissal of Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed ElMorsi in the 15th minute for a foul on João Cambangula changed the complexion of the contest.

Cambangula pulled a goal back a minute later before Magno Felipe Gomes equalised in the 25th minute to complete Angola’s recovery.

Cambangula then grabbed his second of the evening on the half-hour mark to put Angola ahead for the first time, before Anderson Fortes sealed an impressive victory with a fourth goal in the final minute.

The result means Angola finish with a perfect nine points from three matches, having also defeated Mozambique 5-1 and Tanzania 6-0. They have scored 15 goals in those games and will enter the knockout stage full of confidence.

Egypt, who had won their opening two fixtures without conceding a goal, advance as runners-up with six points and now face the daunting prospect of meeting hosts and defending champions Morocco.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Mozambique secured their first victory of the tournament with a comfortable 4-0 success against Tanzania.

Délcio Daniel struck twice in the opening 10 minutes before José da Silva Magu added a third in the 12th minute and completed his brace after the interval.

Neither side could qualify for the semi-finals, but the result allowed Mozambique to finish third in Group B and ensured Tanzania ended their debut campaign without a point.

Attention now turns to Monday’s semi-finals, with Angola facing Algeria in the opening contest at 17h00 GMT.

The North Africans have reached the last four on their tournament debut, securing their place with a thrilling 7-4 victory over Zambia on Friday.

The second semi-final, at 20h00 GMT, promises a fascinating encounter between traditional rivals Morocco and Egypt.

Morocco have been the dominant force in African futsal in recent years and are chasing a fourth successive continental title, having won the competition in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

Hicham Dguig’s side have been outstanding on home soil, winning all three group matches against Algeria, Zambia and Libya, scoring 17 goals without conceding.

Egypt, however, have three continental titles of their own and will be determined to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment.

The semi-final winners will meet in the final on Wednesday, 21 October, when the new African champions will be crowned in Rabat.
