Angola reach Futsal AFCON final to set up Morocco decider

Hosts Morocco and Angola will contest the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Wednesday after advancing through Monday’s semi-finals in dramatically different fashion.

Defending champions Morocco maintained their perfect tournament record with a commanding 6-0 victory over Egypt, while Angola produced a remarkable comeback from two goals down to defeat debutants Algeria 3-2 at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat.

The results set up a repeat of the 2024 final, with Morocco seeking a fourth successive continental crown and Angola hoping to claim their maiden title.

Morocco have been in irresistible form, winning all four matches without conceding a goal and scoring 23 times.

They took control against Egypt with three goals in the opening 15 minutes. Bilal Bakkali broke the deadlock in the ninth minute before Ismail Amazal doubled the advantage a minute later and completed his brace in the 15th minute.

Bakkali added his second shortly after the restart before Soufian Charraoui scored twice in the closing stages to complete another emphatic victory for Hicham Dguig’s side.

Angola, meanwhile, showed extraordinary resilience to reach a second successive final.

Algeria appeared on course for another historic result in their debut campaign when Mathieu Hammad put them ahead with a ninth-minute free-kick and Ait Hamadouche doubled their advantage shortly before half-time.

But the Palancas Negras came storming back after the break, with Aderito Santos reducing the deficit in the 29th minute before Hornes Do Santo equalised six minutes later.

Francisco Gabriel Chico completed the turnaround in the 38th minute, firing Angola ahead for the first time in the contest.

Algeria’s hopes of forcing extra time suffered a further setback when Amar Bessa was sent off in the closing seconds.

Wednesday’s final promises a fascinating rematch
Morocco will enter the decider as strong favourites, having dominated the competition so far and beaten Angola 5-1 in the 2024 final in Rabat.

That victory gave the Atlas Lions their third consecutive title and drew them level with Egypt as the most successful nations in the competition’s history.

Angola, however, will take confidence from their remarkable fighting spirit. They have now recovered from two-goal deficits to beat both Egypt and Algeria in successive matches and will be determined to go one better than two years ago.

Wednesday’s programme begins with Egypt taking on Algeria in the third-place play-off at 17h00 local time (18h00 CAT).

Morocco and Angola then meet in the final at 20h00 local time (21h00 CAT), with both fixtures taking place at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat.
