The silverware on offer at the 2017 COSAFA Castle Cup will be on display at the Moruleng Mall on Monday, June 12 ahead of a high-profile friendly international between two of the favourites for the title, hosts South Africa and Zambia.
The Southern African giants clash at the Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday (kick-off 19h00), giving local fans a sneak peak of their form ahead of the regional championship that will be played between June 25 and July 9 in South Africa’s North West province.
The Moruleng Stadium will be one of the venues used for the competition, along with the magnificent Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, which was a host venue for matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Players from both South Africa and Zambia will be on hand at the Moruleng Mall to meet with fans on what is the first leg of the COSAFA Castle Cup Trophy Tour for 2017.
The festivities will get under way at 16h45 on Monday, giving local fans the unique opportunity to get up close to their heroes.
The players will be available to sign autographs and jerseys, while fans can have their picture taken with the trophy and there will be a fun photo booth to mark the occasion.
The Trophy Tour will continue on to the Phokeng Mall on June 17 from 12h30 to 15h30, where there will be more activities and giveaways for fans to enjoy.
Meanwhile, the match itself on Tuesday evening will be a fascinating battle between two old foes.
South Africa and Zambia have met on seven previous occasions, with five wins each and seven draws.
In fact, Zambia have been South Africa’s most frequent opponent since their readmission to the FIFA fold in 1992.
