It was a tense day of action for the COSAFA sides competing in the football tournaments at the 2015 All Africa Games currently being held in Congo.
The Zimbabwean men were knocked out of their competition, while the South African women are still in contention for the next round, but must hope other results go their way if they are to advance.
Zimbabwe lost 1-0 to Sudan on Thursday and with two defeats so far, even a big win in their final Group A match against home side Congo on Sunday will not be enough to advance.
Zimbabwe had earlier lost by the same margin to Burkinfa Faso and the best they can do now is finish third in their pool.
The South African women claimed a 0-0 draw with Ghana in a three-team pool that also includes Cameroon.
Ghana and Cameroon meet in the final game on Friday and only a score draw in which each side scores two goals or more will see South Africa ousted.
A win for either side and Banyana Banyana will advance as the second-placed team in the pool after they also drew 1-1 with Cameroon earlier in the campaign.
The top two sides in the other women’s pool have already been decided with Nigeria and Ivory Coast making it two wins from two.
The semifinals take place on Tuesday.
