Records at the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers

The CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers Botswana 2026 will be played in Gaborone, Botswana from August 20–29, marking the sixth edition of the preliminary competition for the continental finals.
We look back at the previous five tournaments to see who holds the major records in the competition.

MOST TROPHY WINS
Mamelodi Sundowns – 2

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns have won two of the five previous COSAFA Qualifiers, lifting the trophy in 2021 and 2023. They went on to win the African title in both those years. Green Buffaloes from Zambia were regional champions in 2022, while South Africa’s University of the Western Cape triumphed in 2024, a year in which Sundowns did not compete, having already qualified for the continental finals as African champions. Gaborone United Ladies were winners in 2025 having finished runners-up the season before.

MOST GOALS IN A FINALS
63 goals in 2025
The highest-scoring edition of the COSAFA Qualifiers came in 2025, with 63 goals scored in 15 matches, an average of 4.20 goals per game, providing rich entertainment for fans. In comparison, there were 42 goals in 2021, 25 in 2022 (from just eight games), 52 in 16 matches in 2023 and 39 goals in 15 matches in 2024. The highest goals-per-game ratio came in the 2025 edition.

MOST MATCHES WON
Mamelodi Sundowns – 14
Sundowns have won 14 of their 17 matches in the regional qualifiers, drawing two and losing for the first time in the semi-finals to ZESCO Ndola Girls with a 2-1 defeat. They went five-from-five in both 2021 and 2023, but drew with Double Action (1-1) and Green Buffaloes (0-0) in 2022, finishing as runners-up that year. They won all three group games in 2025 but then lost the last 4 clash.

BIGGEST VICTORY
Gaborone United Ladies 10-1 Kick4Life
Gaborone United Ladies claimed a stunning 10-1 victory over Lesotho’s Kick4Life in their final group game in 2025. Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse scored five goals, Maungo Maponga got four and Desiree Kenyaditswe netted the other for the Botswana side. They beat the previous biggest winning margin of 8-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns over Olympic de Moroni from Comoros in the 2023 group stage.

MOST GOALS IN A TOURNAMENT BY A PLAYER
Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse (Gaborone United Ladies) – 7
Ontlametse netted seven goals in all in the 2025 edition, with those five goals against Kick4Life and two more against CD Costa do Sol in the semi-finals. It is a record for a single tournament. 

MOST GOALS IN THE COSAFA QUALIFIERS
Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse (Gaborone United Ladies) – 11
Ontlametse also holds the record for the most goals overall in the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers. She scored four goals for Double Action Ladies and seven for Gaborone United Ladies.

MOST GOALS BY A CLUB
Mamelodi Sundowns – 64
Sundowns have scored 64 goals across their four campaigns in the COSAFA Qualifiers, while conceding only six. They are by far the most prolific club in the competition’s history. They have played 17 matches, so average 3.77 goals per game.

MOST APPEARANCES
Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) & Green Buffaloes (Zambia)
Mamelodi Sundowns and Green Buffaloes have both appeared in four finals tournaments. Buffaloes appeared four years in a row from 2021 to 2024, while Sundowns appeared in 2021-2023 and 2025. They only missed 2024 as they were exempt due to the fact they were African champions.
