South Africa, Zambia advance in FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers

South Africa and Zambia have progressed to the final round of qualifying for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be staged in Morocco from October 17 to November 7.

Zambia defeated DR Congo 7-0 on aggregate to book their place in the third and final qualifying round, where they will meet Ethiopia for a place at the global finals.

South Africa edged Tanzania 2-0 on aggregate in their tie and will now face Kenya over two legs for a place at the World Cup.

Those matches are scheduled to be played on the weekends of July 3-5 and July 10-12.

Zambia have previously appeared at the global finals on three occasions, first in 2014 before qualifying again in 2024 and 2025. They reached the Round of 16 in the latter, their best finish to date.

South Africa have made two previous appearances at the finals, in 2010 and 2018, exiting in the group stage on both occasions.
