EN, FR, PR: Mozambique, Comoros book semifinal spots in Harare
Mozambique and Comoros have both qualified for the semifinals of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations 2026 | COSAFA Qualifiers after the final set of pool matches in Group A were played in Harare on Monday.
Mozambique defeated Eswatini 4-0 to top the pool with seven points and a +5 goal-difference, while Comoros edged hosts Zimbabwe 3-2 to also finish with seven points and a +4 goal-difference.
It ensures both are through, as no-one can overhaul Comoros as the best runner-up across the three pools.
South Africa (six points, +8) and Malawi (six points, +3) meet in a final winner-takes-all clash in Group B on Tuesday, where the victor will advance top of the group.
However, if it is a draw, Malawi will not be able to beat Comoros’ record as they will also be on seven points but with a +3 goal-difference. No team in Group C can finish second with more than six points, with Angola already confirmed as group winners.
Mozambique claimed top spot in Group A as they beat Eswatini at the Hearts Stadium.
It took Mozambique an hour to break the deadlock against a resolute Eswatini side, but they finally did so when Chauson Nhabanga steered the ball into the back of the net with a lovely right-footed volley at the back post.
It was soon 2-0 as Kristff Machava reacted quickest to a rebound after the Eswatini goalkeeper had made a save, and fired home from close range.
Marcos Lazaro got the first of his two goals with a powerful header from a corner, before he stooped low to head in from close range for the all-important fourth goal for Mozambique that took them top of the pool.
Comoros held on to edge Zimbabwe in an exciting five-goal thriller in the other match in the pool.
Comoros took the lead when Kais Ali found space and scored with a neat finish from the edge of the box.
Zimbabwe, who had the backing of a big, vocal crowd, showed speed and skill, especially in their build-up play, and often looked dangerous when moving the ball forward.
In the 58th minute, Zimbabwe substitute Tadiwe Chakuchichi produced a moment of magic, scoring a beauty of a goal to level the scores.
Just four minutes later, Comoros conceded an own goal, giving the home team the lead and sending fans into celebration.
Just when it looked like Zimbabwe was in control, Fasifdine Ahamada scored in the 76th minute to make it 2-2, and shortly afterwards Comoros took the lead through Mathis Ali to grab the three points.
Group B and C will conclude on Tuesday when the semifinal line-up will be complete.
South Africa and Malawi will clash at the Ngoni Mwos Stadium (12h00 CAT; 10h00 GMT).
A draw would see South Africa advance as pool winners by virtue of their superior goal-difference. Malawi’s only chance of taking top spot is to win.
The other match in the pool is between Zambia and Madagascar at Hearts Stadium, which kicks off at the same time. Both those teams are already eliminated after back-to-back defeats in their opening two games.
Angola have already sealed top spot in Group C after a pair of 5-0 wins over Botswana and Lesotho. They next take on Mauritius at the Hearts Stadium (15h00 CAT; 13h00 GMT) and will be looking to make it a clean sweep.
Lesotho face Botswana at the same time at the Ngoni Mwos Stadium.

Le Mozambique et les Comores en demie
La cinquième journée de la TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations | COSAFA Qualifier 2026 au Zimbabwe a apporté des conclusions nettes dans le groupe A et des enseignements précieux sur la physionomie du tournoi. À Hearts Stadium, le Mozambique a déroulé face à Eswatini et signé un succès conséquent (4-0) qui scelle sa première place du groupe avec la qualification en poche. Nhabanga a ouvert le score à l’heure de jeu (60’) et a libéré une équipe mozambicaine dont la maîtrise s’est traduite par des enchaînements fluides et un pressing bien orchestré. Machava a alourdi la note (72’) sur une action construite, tandis que Lazaro, dans le temps additionnel, a parachevé la victoire (90’). Drama e glória: Moçambique e Comores nas “meias”
A terceira e última jornada do Grupo A da Qualificação da COSAFA para a Taça das Nações Africanas Sub-17 da TotalEnergies 2026 confirmou Moçambique e Comores como as duas seleções apuradas para as meias-finais da competição, num desfecho marcado por emoção e drama até ao apito final.
Moçambique fechou a fase de grupos no primeiro lugar, com sete pontos, fruto de duas vitórias e um empate, e com um registo defensivo imaculado: nenhum golo sofrido em três jogos. A equipa moçambicana confirmou o favoritismo com uma goleada por 4-0 diante do Eswatini, construída sobretudo na segunda parte, quando Chauson Nhabanga abriu caminho com um disparo certeiro aos 60 minutos, antes de Kristff Machava (72’) e Marcos Lázaro (90’) selarem a vitória. Nhabanga, eleito melhor em campo, foi a alma de um conjunto disciplinado e pragmático, que nunca perdeu o controlo da partida.
No outro jogo do grupo, disputado no Hearts Stadium, viveu-se um dos momentos mais intensos da competição até agora. O Zimbabwe parecia encaminhar-se para a primeira vitória, depois de virar o marcador para 2-1, com golos de Tadiwa Chakuchichi (58’) e Seth Musarapachena (62’).
Mas as Comores, que já venciam desde cedo graças a Fasifdine Ahamada (13’), mostraram uma notável capacidade de resistência e, num turbilhão de emoções, recuperaram na recta final. Yassine Mchangama (76’), eleito melhor jogador do encontro, e Mathis Ali (84’) protagonizaram a reviravolta épica por 3-2, garantindo o segundo triunfo e a qualificação como a melhor segunda classificada entre todos os grupos.
Com este desfecho, a tabela do Grupo A ficou definida: Moçambique e Comores com 7 pontos cada, mas os “Mambinhas” no topo devido à diferença de golos. Zimbabwe e Eswatini despedem-se sem vitórias, com apenas um ponto conquistado.
O regulamento da prova dita que os vencedores de cada um dos três grupos e o melhor segundo classificado avançam para as meias-finais. No dia 18 de Setembro, o primeiro do Grupo B enfrentará o vencedor do Grupo C (12h00, Ngoni Mwos Stadium), enquanto o líder do Grupo A, Moçambique, encontrará precisamente a melhor segunda classificada, as Comores (15h00, Ngoni). A final está agendada para 20 de Setembro, às 14h00, também no Ngoni Stadium, antecedida pelo jogo de atribuição do 3.º lugar, marcado para as 11h00.
Ainda há contas por fechar nos outros grupos. No Grupo B, África do Sul e Malawi, ambos com seis pontos em duas jornadas, vão disputar entre si a liderança, mas a vantagem no saldo de golos deixa a “Bafana Bafana” em posição privilegiada. Seja qual for o desfecho, uma das duas seleções seguirá para as meias-finais, já que o pior cenário ainda garante o apuramento como melhor segunda classificada.
No Grupo C, Angola, já qualificada, mostrou-se demolidora, com 10 golos marcados e nenhum sofrido em apenas dois jogos, assegurando a primeira posição. Lesoto, Maurícias e Botswana ainda disputam entre si a sobrevivência.
Com o calendário a apertar, o torneio ruma para a sua fase decisiva. Para já, Moçambique e Comores, com histórias de luta, resistência e talento revelado em campo, são as primeiras seleções a garantir presença nas meias-finais, deixando claro que a corrida ao título da COSAFA Sub-17 está cada vez mais intensa e imprevisível.
