2016 COSAFA Castle Cup Trophy Tour preview

Walvis Bay will host the first stop on the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup Trophy Tour as the festival of football fun pulls in to the coastal town on Saturday, May 21.

There will be a bit of everything for fans to enjoy, including a coaching clinic, an exhibition match in a fantastic 5-a-side soccer cage that members of the public can take part in and local and international football legends on hand to tell their stories of COSAFA Castle Cup triumph.

The action gets under way at 14h00 at the Kuisebmund Stadium in Walvis Bay and there will also be great giveaways from the sponsors, including Castle Lager and COSAFA, autograph opportunities and, of course, the chance to be photographed with the coveted COSAFA Castle Cup trophy that is currently held by Namibia.

West Coast FM will be broadcasting live from the event, while singer Adora, who has written a theme song for the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup, will perform along with other local artists.

“The trophy tour in Namibia is designed to give as many consumers access to the excitement of the tournament as possible. We encourage consumers to join us at all the various stops to experience the pre-tournament excitement and meet some of their national heroes,” says Zama Hlophe – Marketing Manager, Castle Lager Africa.

“The fact that we are taking the trophy to different towns shows our commitment to give Namibians and their SuperFans a taste of the COSAFA Castle Cup action wherever they may be.

“In 2016, Castle Lager is bringing together the SuperFans from all the countries around the region to support their teams in their pursuit of the title of champion. Our SuperFans campaign brings consumers together to do something great for our football and brings to life the best of our region – our football and our people.”

The COSAFA Castle Cup Trophy Tour will also assist in creating awareness, together with Namibia’s Ministry of Health, of the Human Papilloma Virus and the Government of Namibia’s commitment to rolling out a vaccination programme to teenage girls.
